My Bio
Joaquin Sosa is an award-winning Cuban jazz musician, who plays clarinet, tenor saxophone and flugelhorn.
As a young clarinetist Joaquin participated in the Cuban National Woodwind Competition, where he won 1st place and 3rd place in the International Competition JOJAZZ whilst being the youngest participant. Joaquin graduated Amadeo Roldan in classical clarinet with distinction, however he was always passionate about jazz and that is the path he is currently pursuing.
He performed in various Jazz Festivals in Cuba, Barbados, Spain, UAE and Poland where he shared the stage with great artists like: Wynton Marsalis, Victor Goines, Roy Hargrove, Horacio El Negro, Giovanni Hidalgo, Arturo Tappin and Frederic Yonnet. Joaquin was invited, twice, to perform with 14 times GRAMMY Awards winner Maestro Paquito D’Rivera in his concerts “Galician Connection” and “100 Años de Bebo”. According to him, Sosa is “one of the most talented and versatile colleagues in the contemporary clarinet world”.
In 2019 Joaquin recorded his first jazz album “Caminando” that is comprised of his original compositions, and in the following years won 3rd place in the International Clarinet Jazz Competition ICCC and 1st place in Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa Competition. In 2021 Sosa recorded his second album “Joaquin Sosa Quartet – Katowice Session”, which was recognized by Europe Jazz Network and appeared in Europe Jazz Media Chart of July 2021. Reviews of both albums were published in the oldest Polish jazz magazine “Jazz Forum”.
Joaquin Sosa is endorsing P. Mauriat clarinets and saxophones, Theo Wanne mouthpieces and Zac ligatures. He currently lives in Poland.
